Lack of street lighting in San Diego
Just a few weeks ago we published a short excerpt from Jane Jacobs’ ‘Death and Life of Great American Cities’, where she explains why street lighting alone is not enough to ensure street safety. According to Jacobs proper street lighting can be useful as long as it helps social control and facilitates people to look over their streets and discreetly safeguard them.
In this article from Fast Co.Exist we have read about an initiative that collects after dark stories of San Diego’s inhabitants with the intention to study the correlation between street lighting and crime.
