Interactive Media Facade in Madrid

Architects María Langarita and Victor Navarro, Langarita explain that “The LED Action Façade is an infrastructure designed as an interactive medium, capable of promoting social responsibility, civil participation, information transmission, social interaction and leisure experiences”

Philips iColor Flex SLX

The device consists of a regular matrix of Philips Color Kinetics iColor® Flex SLX RGB LEDs featuring aluminum cones whose section has been designed to reflect the light beam from the sources and to improve the screen’s viewability. This involves the creation of a viewing device occupying 144 m2, made up of approximately 35,000 nodes. With open public contests and invited contributions from artists and emerging designers from around the world, this gigantic screen constantly takes on surprising shapes. And in this way, the Plaza de las Letras is forever connected to Medialab-Prado’s interactive LED Action Façade. The result is that the bustling square has become a major attraction for both young and old.
